"Save Our Tree, We Still Have Hope !"

This is my final for assignment three. I am still using the same theme since the first assignment, the hope to change for the better world and to protect our trees and nature!

~The Principle of Design~
  • In this poster, I make the wings more contrast and eye catchy.
  • I also choose the harmony color that shows the nature.
  • There is different tonal value that show between the shape and its shadow.
  • The message for the audience can be understand easily.
  • My target for the audience is the age between 16 and above.
  • The shape of my design can be understand easily.

p/s: I don't sure either what i wrote above is right or wrong as needed by Dr.Ken Neo.. T^T

However, I have done my very best for this semester and I hope I can get a good mark from it. ~curtain close~ ^^

The Steps of Drawing (Illustrator) 3rd

1. Firstly, i put the ruler for measurement of the shape that i will draw.

2.I put m sketch on it and adjust my sketch to the size which i want.
3. I start to draw the wings roughly by using pen tool.

4. In this process, I adjust the point and make the wing's shape more smooth. Pen tool is the best in adjusting the shape! ^^

5. Then I copy the wing and put it on my Assgnment 2 layout. At this stage i color the wing by using livepaint bucket tool.

6. After that, I copy the second layer of the wing and adjust it. I also color it with livepaint bucket.

7. Later, I do the third copy of the wing and adjust its size. I put gradiet on it (radial).

8. I adjust the size of the tree to make sure the wing can cover it like what i had planned.

9. After several adjustment, I put the wing on the tree.

10. I edit the phrase by using type tool. Not only that i drop shadow on my wing to make it looks 3D a bit as it is too flat on the tree. (Effect-->Stylize-->Drop shadow)

And you can see my final on the top titled,"Save Our Tree,We Still Have Hope"

The Sketches (Assignment 3)

As I said earlier during the Assignment 2, I will just add this wing to my poster and do some edit on it.. Hence, my focus on Assignment 3 is to draw a pair of wings.

My Statement and The Brief about it...

Statement : Save The Trees, We Still Have Hope

The worlds rain forests are widely believed by laymen to contribute a significant amount of world's oxygen. In fact, people are cutting the trees and clean the land for people needs and economy demand. However, if we did not take action as the deforestation are continue to happen, the mother earth might lost one of the most important living thing, trees. And without sufficient reforestation,it will results in declines in habitat and biodiversity. This will effect badly to the animals and living thing's habitat. If this happen, our life and future may be in danger. This is because the effect of global warming are keep attacking us nowadays as natural disasters like floods, hurricane, tsunami, rising of sea water level, extreme temperature rise are happen now.

Hence, I try to draw something that can protect the tree. In this positive view I choose the angel's wings to cover the tree. It presents the save, secure and protected environment and also a hope to save the tree. I am still usng the same positive theme from the beginning (my symbol for assignment 1) and apply it on this poster. Then, when people see my poster, they will think of their responsibility and there is still hope and it is never too late to save the tree. The future is in our hand. This is all for our next generation.. ^^

Research on The Area (Deforestation)

Impact on the environment

Generally, the removal or destruction of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity. In many countries, massive deforestation is ongoing and is shaping climate and geography.

Deforestation is a substantial contributor to global warming, The worlds rain forests are widely believed by laymen to contribute a significant amount of world's oxygen although it is now accepted by scientists that rainforests contribute little net oxygen to the atmosphere and deforestation will have no effect whatsoever on atmospheric oxygen levels. However, the incineration and burning of forest plants in order to clear land releases tonnes of CO2 which contributes to global warming.

Deforestation reduces the content of water in the soil and groundwater as well as atmospheric moisture. Deforestation reduces soil cohesion, so that erosion, flooding and landslides often ensue. Forests support considerable biodiversity, providing valuable habitat for wildlife and forests foster for medicinal conservation.Forests enhance the recharge of aquifers in some locales however forests are a major source of aquifer depletion on most locales . With forest biotopes being a major, irreplaceable source of new drugs (like taxol), deforestation can destroy genetic variations (such as crop resistance) irretrievably.

Shrinking forest cover lessens the landscape's capacity to intercept, retain and transport precipitation. Instead of trapping precipitation, which then percolates to groundwater systems, deforested areas become sources of surface water runoff, which moves much faster than subsurface flows. That quicker transport of surface water can translate into flash flooding and more localized floods than would occur with the forest cover. Deforestation also contributes to decreased evapotranspiration, which lessens atmospheric moisture which in some cases affects precipitation levels down wind from the deforested area, as water is not recycled to downwind forests, but is lost in runoff and returns directly to the oceans. According to one preliminary study, in deforested north and northwest China, the average annual precipitation decreased by one third between the 1950s and the 1980s .

Longterm gains can be obtained by managing forest lands sustainably to maintain both forest cover and provide a biodegradable renewable resource. Forests are also important stores of organic carbon, and forests can extract carbon dioxide and pollutants from the air, thus contributing to biosphere stability. Deforestation (mainly in tropical areas) account for up to one-third of total anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Forests are also valued for their aesthetic beauty and as a cultural resource and tourist attraction.

Experts estimate that we are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species every single day due to rainforest deforestation, which equates to 50,000 species a year.“Reducing emissions from tropical deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) in developing countries has emerged as new potential to complement ongoing climate policies. The idea consists in providing financial compensations for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from deforestation and forest degradation”.

The Final for Assignment 2!!!

I Will Save You!
This is my final artwork for assignment 2. It is really pain to do it as i need to redo it twice because for the first artwork,i cannot color it! T_T However, I have done my best to make what i have imagine to become REALITY!!

I have summerize all the tool that i had used while doing this Illustrator -->
  • Pen tool- To draw the lines, create many irregular shape and adjust the shape which have many dots.
  • Paintbrush tool- To draw lines and irregular shape.
  • Twirl tool- To make the shape become a bit spiral or twist.
  • Livepaint Bucket- To fill color and gradient on the shape.
  • Gradient tool- Make the differences in color from the light to dark or whatever addition of color which suitable with the area.
  • Selection tool- Multipurpose used for this tool. To resize, transform, copy, move, grouping and many more.

From what i had learn, it is easy to use pen tool to draw because you can adjust the dots to make the shape more proper and you also can draw the curve easily.

Not only that, make sure you stick the line together and grouping it if you want to color it with live paintbucket. The experience of coloring this assignment 2 teach me on how to use it properly.

The Steps of Drawing (Illustrator) 2nd

1. Firstly, i put the ruler for measurement of the shape that i will draw.

2. I put my sketch on it and adjust my sketch to the size which i want.

3. I start to draw the out line of tree by using pen tool. This tracing process is the most important part because if i did not do it properly, i cannot color it with live paintbucket. In this case i have done this process twice!

4. Then, the process of outline is continue as i draw the fallen feathers and the leaves by using pen tool.

5. I start to color the tree with live paintbucket. I also do some detail on it by put lines and branches. At certain area, i color it with gradient.

6. After that, i color the leaves area with plain green.

7. In this process, i used twirl tool to give a great effect on the leaves. Not only that, I also color it with gradient.

8. Later, I color the fallen feathers, small leaves and the rock by using gradient too. I remove the feather's black outline. Let the colors control it! ^^

9. At this stage, i put a simple layout for the background. A blue sky with the green land!

10. And for the final touch up, i draw the cloud by using paint brush tool and also the small grass. i just copy the grass and arrange it like that. That is the simple way! ^^

Finally, you can see the result of my tree on the top. I titled it as, "I Will Save You".

My Symbol (The Hope)

This flower (Daisy) symbolize innocence, gentleness and purity. It shows the positive message that we still have hope or chance to change the world. It is also represents de-forestation which is one of the main causes for global warming. The love shape stem shows love, appreciate and care for the mother earth. Every single of each petals show that we have many virtues for this world.

Colors

  1. Green- It is about life, abundant in nature. Green signifies growth, renewal, health, and environment. It shows the positive side in order to reduce global warming.

  2. Yellow- It is the color of sunshine, very warm, and denotes for happiness and joy.

  3. White- Purity, cleanliness, and innocence. Every white petals of this flower show the hope of the changes towards the better world.

  4. Orange- It shows energy, as warm as sun.

Global Warming (The Research and Small Topic)

Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-twentieth century, and its projected continuation.

The average global air temperature near the Earth's surface increased 0.74
± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the hundred years ending in 2005. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-twentieth century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic (man-made) greenhouse gas concentrations" via an enhanced greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.

The Small Topic

Deforestation

Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas to non-forest land for use such as arable land, pasture, urban use, logged area, or wasteland. Generally, the removal or destruction of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity. In many countries, massive deforestation is ongoing and is shaping climate and geography. Deforestation results from removal of trees without sufficient reforestation, and results in declines in habitat and biodiversity, wood for fuel and industrial use, and quality of life.

Many tropical countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka, Laos, Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea, Ghana and the Cote d'lvoire have lost large areas of their rainforest. 90% of the forests of the Philippine archipelago have been cut. In 1960 Central America still had 4/5 of its original forest; now it is left with only 2/5. Madagascar has lost 95% of its rainforests. Brazil has lost 90-95% of its Mata Atlântica forest. Half of the Brazilian state of Rondonia's 24.3 million hectares have been destroyed or severely degraded in recent years. As of 2007, less than 1% of Haiti's forests remain, causing many to call Haiti a Caribbean desert. Between 1990 and 2005, Nigeria lost a staggering 79% of its old-growth forests. Several countries, notably the Philippines, Thailand and India have declared their deforestation a national emergency.

Effect from Deforestation

Deforestation is often cited as one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change deforestation, mainly in tropical areas, account for up to one-third of total anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Trees and other plants remove carbon (in the form of carbon dioxide) from the atmosphere during the process of photosynthesis. Both the decay and burning of wood releases much of this stored carbon back to the atmosphere. Deforestation also causes carbon stores held in soil to be released. Forests are stores of carbon and can be either sinks or sources depending upon environmental circumstances. Mature forests can be net sinks of carbon dioxide (see Carbon dioxide sink and Carbon cycle).
The water cycle is also affected by deforestation. Trees extract groundwater through their roots and release it into the atmosphere. When part of a forest is removed, the region cannot hold as much water and can result in a much drier climate.

The Step of Drawing (Illustrator)

1. I start to use ruler as a base before drawing.
2. I start to draw petals and color it's centre with orange+yellow.
3. I am using gradient (linear) to color the petals. It is the combination of yellow and white.
4. I put my sketch,so that it is easy for me to draw the love shape stem. This is easy for my reference. The layer for my sketch is template.

5. I put the the flower in the middle of the sketch to get the right position.

6. At this step, I start to draw the stem by using pen tools.
7. At this stage, i edit so many times to get the perfect love shape of the stem. At the end, it symbolize better than my sketch in order to make it more simple and suitable for 'symbol' type.
8. I put an extra stem at the end of the stem.
9. I put the fallen petals which I hide before.

10. For the final step, i remove my sketch. This my symbol for global warming.

The Research for CG's symbol

Daisy
Daisy are symbolize as innocence, gentleness and purity. The message from the Daisy shows of innocence and purity saying you have many virtues as this plant has petals. White Daisy symbolize common affection.
Thus,in this global warming cases,we should now how to appreciate this mother earth by let other creature lives peacefully. Daisy symbolize this situation perfectly regarding to this global warming. It give us hope to change the world before it's too late..
